La Plaza de Andrés: The best food court in Bogotá?

There seems to be a very similar reaction among people who visit the new Plaza de Andrés: jaw-dropping, impressive, amazing, like the Disneyland of food courts — Andrés has done it again. The creator of the Andrés Carne de Res dining and partying institutions in Chia and Bogotá – musts for anyone visiting Bogotá – has created one of the coolest food court concepts I have ever come across.

Upon entering, you come across the coffee station, pastry shop, bakery and delicatessen. Walk a little further and you reach the sandwich station, hamburgers, chicken shop, fruit stand with an array of tropical fruit juices, seafood, grill area for all kinds of meats and all the typical accompaniments, ice cream, crepes, salad station, all-day breakfast, rice station featuring the humble calentado all the way to paella, ceviches, soups, etc.

Pretty much anything you can think of is in this food court or plaza de mercado – even a bar on wheels in case you feel the need for a cocktail, a beer or a shot. And if you feel like a little shopping you can even buy and take home a part of the experience in the form of an apron, a hand-painted pitcher, a platter, or a number of other little knick-knacks with the Andrés signature flair.

Colorful, thoughtful and with an amazing attention to detail, I fell in love with this place. Now, don’t get me wrong – I know I am making it sound perfect in every sense – not everything was amazing. A few of the fruit juices were watered down and some of the portions were a little skimpy. The prices aren’t exactly cheap but compared to the  normal prices Andrés charges at his other places, it was quite reasonable.

Besides the food and the planning and everything else, it’s also the little things that impressed me. Check out the tray above – isn’t that a nice detail? And how about the counter below made with bottle caps? More than just the food, La Plaza de Andrés is an experience.

So, is La Plaza de Andrés the best food court in Bogotá? It very well could be, but you should go check it out for yourself.

I am an American who visited Bogota this past week. This food court is the coolest I have ever seen in the more than 40 countries I have visited. It’s almost a tourist destination. Try something of everything.
